Psychological Evaluations
We believe that great psychological evaluations can be transformational.
Many psychological evaluations are completed in one day, causing patients to worry that their concerns were not fully captured. At Alaska Telepsychology, we take the time needed to understand the complexity of the referral questions, collaborate with patients to catalogue their symptoms, and clearly explain test results, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations.
We favor a multidisciplinary approach, and, when possible, incorporate information from primary care providers, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and school districts. Our goal is to capture your full picture, not just a snapshot from our office.
Because accurate diagnoses depend on an accurate history, we involve patients in report writing. You will review a draft of your background to check for accuracy and suggest edits, and you will review the evaluation and give feedback before your report is finalized.
We tailor evaluations to the person in front of us. Rather than running a standard battery of tests on repeat, we select only measures relevant to your specific concerns and we adjust the time we spend with you accordingly.
We believe the evaluation process itself can be therapeutic. Throughout testing, we explain what we are seeing, walk through diagnoses and differential diagnoses, and help you understand the "why" behind your own behavior and experiences. We welcome questions and take the time to answer them.
Our reports are written in plain language and organized clearly around your reasons for seeking evaluation, your standardized testing results, your diagnoses, and concrete recommendations that you can implement in your community, urban or rural. With your signed consent, we send final reports directly to your referring providers, so your care team stays connected.
We bring optimism, energy, and authentic connection to psychological testing. We commit to helping patients make a meaningful three-degree course correction to become their best selves.
If you are a dog person, our therapy dog in training can join the session as well!
